Reaction Screening

Most efforts in process research and development (PRD) are limited by the slow speed of manual experimental operations. Through its automated and configurable Core Module 3 (CM3) robotic platform, Freeslate enables you to perform PRD in a high throughput manner. With the CM3-based Reaction Screening System, you can screen hundreds of reaction conditions per day under a variety of reaction composition variables (e.g., acids, bases, catalysts, ligands, solvents) and conditions (e.g., temperature, pressure¹, concentration) to quickly optimize process parameters using minimal amounts of materials. Because of the greater throughput, you can explore reaction parameters outside those used in conventional experimentation, reducing development risk and allowing for non-intuitive discoveries. Combined with Freeslate Lab Execution and Analysis (LEA) software, the Reaction Screening System accelerates your process development including experiment design, reagent preparation, process monitoring, and data analysis, maximizing your R&D productivity.

Using this system, Merck was able to reduce catalyst and solvent usage² which led to an estimated savings of $70 million over 5 years and won the AstraZeneca IChemE Award for Excellence in Green Chemistry.
