The Second International Conference devoted to high-throughput process development (HTPD) will have an expanded scope covering process development from upstream processing, through downstream processing, to stable formulation. Although several high-throughput methods are routinely used for process development, there are still many challenges to address. Examples include potential analytical bottlenecks, effects of scale and formats on data, interpretation of data, and adequate control of experimental conditions at the microscale. These and other challenges warrant both experimental and theoretical considerations, and addressing them will help advance the area of high-throughput process development further.
HTPD 2012 provides a forum for discussion and exchange of ideas surrounding the challenges and benefits of employing high-throughput techniques in the development of processes and stable formulations for the manufacture of biological products. HTPD meetings offer an excellent opportunity to influence the future of high-throughput process development methods in the industry.

Biotherapeutics are not something new today. However developing a state-of-the- art formulion for protein drugs remains the top challenge for scientists and companies. The evolving positions of regulatory agencies of early submission of data make it even more difficult for protein scientists to develop robust formulations in a short period of time. While pharmas and biotechs are confronted by budget cuts and product pipelines drying up, expanding biotherapeutic portfolio is inevitable and urgently needed.
Following the series of marcus evans Protein Formulation Development forums, this 3rd annual will delve further into the subject. The conference will discuss the latest progress within the industry, understand regulators’ expectations, and most importantly the advancement and relationships between drug delivery and protein formulation.
